Moments Gone By

It was only yesterday,
You looked at me
With tunnel vision,
Burning embers for eyes.

In the moment, so real,
Your skin against my skin,
You held me to you
With your words.

But we spoke not of tomorrow,
And the flame flickered.
The moment passed,
And tomorrow came.

You stood on the curb,
But I clung to the moment
And it carried me away.
I looked back today and saw a shadow.
