Fire through my Veins

My heart beat its frustrated wings against my chest.
Your hips guided mine as my eyes
Searched your gaze—restless—
Until I discovered an answer,
And, although their efforts were not in vain,
I begged to play a different game, for
The fire I found burned.

Desire lit your eyes and projected
A passion that scorched my heart
And rattled the cage that restrained it.
The fire bled smoke into my veins,
And hope’s breath became constricted
As I slowly realized that our bodies
Spoke the same language, but
Our hearts did not.
